I was so excited for Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils (and OH MY GOSH) but with the way my brain naturally works plus BBC America’s Doctor Who marathon up to the premiere, I’ve been thinking about Legend of the Sea Devils as deeply as the special which immediately preceded it, Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks. And because I’ve still SO MANY FEELINGS I want to process about Legend of the Sea Devils before I’d write about it, I decided to write about Eve of the Daleks. After the insanely intense (and, at times, confusing/convoluted) nature of Doctor Who: Flux, Eve of the Daleks was a nice pallet cleanser. Granted it still had me worrying for the safety of our new characters the whole time and the emotional ground it covered was more intense than Flux, but it was a fun, self-contained, single episode story. For me, part of its deep resonance came in how it invited me to consider the power of a moment.

The BIG Question: Would You Rather Be Iron Man or Batman?
I spent the last week in New Orleans for a conference…where I saw none of the city as I was stuck in 12+ hours of meetings/seminars/lectures every day. BUT I did direct some of my mental energy towards contemplating one of life’s biggest, most pressing issues. You see, Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne essentially have the same character framework. I’m not the first person to make this observation, but it’s true. Both are insanely wealthy. Both have brilliant minds. Both run huge companies. Both lost their parents when they were young (albeit in different circumstances). Both became superheroes. Both are founding/central members in one of their universe’s most important superhero teams – the Avengers and Justice League, respectively. Despite their similarities though, they are two VERY different characters with VERY different lives…which leads us to our BIG question – if you could choose, would you rather be Iron Man or Batman?? The BIG Question: Which Vehicle/Ship Would You Choose?
Once before, I rolled up my sleeves and tackled one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring questions – which superpowers would you choose, if you could have any? But that’s far from the only query to vex the human imagination. As long as we’ve been imagining mystical, powerful, larger-than-life beings in incredible, captivating, exciting stories, we’ve been imagining different ways for them to move around. Naturally, the next best thing to imagining fictional characters travelling in these incredible vessels is thinking about having a real one for ourselves. And this brings us to the question at the center of today’s post – if you could choose, which ship or vehicle or transport would you pick to have for your very own? Continue reading
The BIG Question: Which Superpowers Would You Choose?
I think this has to be a question as old as human imagination. Right? Once we began thinking of mythic beings, demigods, and superheroes – beings imbued with fantastic abilities – the next logical step after imagining their daring exploits would be to wonder what it would be like if we had those powers ourselves. And that ties to the question this little post will consider – If you could choose, what superhero’s power set would you pick for yourself?? Continue reading
